Choo Young Woo Dishes On His Recent Dramas “The Tale Of Lady Ok” And “The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call”
Actor Choo Young Woo has joined Harper’s Bazaar Korea for a pictorial and interview! The photo shoot, themed “New Era, New Man,” highlights the actor’s rising popularity following his recent hit dramas “The Tale of Lady Ok” and “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.” In an accompanying interview, Choo Young Woo opened up about his sudden rise to popularity. He shared, “It’s all happened in such a short time, and I don’t think much has changed. I eat the same, sleep the same, and hang out with the same friends. I believe it’s important to work while fully accepting the sense of responsibility and pressure that come with it. Instead of trying to relieve that burden, I’ve tried to embrace it because it’s not just my personal struggle—it’s about all the people who have helped and supported me. That just makes me want to do even better in the future.” He also discussed his recent projects, JTBC’s “The Tale of Lady Ok” and Netflix’s “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.” Reflecting on playing a dual role in “The Tale of Lady Ok,” he said, “I’ve talked about playing two characters in other interviews, but just yesterday, I had a realization while discussing acting with a friend. People interact with different individuals in different ways—your tone and behavior change when you’re with someone you like versus someone you dislike, or when speaking to a child versus someone you find intimidating. Keeping that in mind helped me shape the two roles.” Regarding his role in “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,” where he left a strong impression with his effortless comedic performance, he explained, “My character, Jae Won, tries to do everything Professor Baek Kang Hyuk (Ju Ji Hoon) asks of him, but his inexperience inevitably shows. I aimed to depict that in a cartoonish way. Since Netflix series are watched worldwide, I thought that making my expressions clear and more exaggerated would help international viewers connect with the character. You could say Jae Won brings a comedic charm that contrasts with Baek Kang Hyuk’s perfection. I really tried to highlight what makes Jae Won uniquely endearing.” When asked what he most wanted to say about himself as an actor, looking back on his journey, he responded, “I’ve received a lot of mixed feedback. ‘He seems mature but still like a kid. He seems good at acting but also somewhat lacking.’ Strangely, I don’t mind these comments. In a way, it means I have an ambiguous charm that others don’t. I hope people will continue to watch over me with affection until my charm becomes more defined.” Choo Young Woo’s full interview and pictorial can be found in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar Korea.
