SHINee‘s Key came under fire for his recent most about the late Jonghyun. Jonghyun’s 8th death anniversary recently passed on December 18, 2025, with the members taking turns to commemorate him with posts on social media.

Key’s update came a day late, on December 19. He posted a photo of Jonghyun looking despondent, with the caption “smile brother smile. miss you.”

Despite his good intentions, the post raised ire amongst netizens. Many felt that the caption and photo was “creepy,” while others brought up the fact that his anniversary had already passed. Coupled with Key’s recent controversy surrounding his patronizing of an unlicensed doctor, it did not paint a good picture for the star.
